Well done to Sgt Graham, Cpl Hunking, Cdt Gordon and Cdt Flanagan who all represented 859 at the Inter Squadron Swimming Competition today in Livingston. No medals this time round but a good effort from all!
This weekend Cadets Euan Campbell, Kipp McTavish, Kieran Gordon and Ben Forrester joined forces with cadets from 1232 (Dundee) to complete their practice expedition for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award in the Ochil Hills. Despite a very wet day on Saturday the cadets successfully passed the test and can now look forward to completing their assessed expedition in September. Well done guys!
Well done to the Squadron Aircraft Recognition Team consisting of Sgt Graham, Cpl Hunking and Cdt Horne. They came first in the Open (Advanced) Competition at the Wing Activity Day held today at HMS Caledonia. Special congratulations to Cdt Horne who also placed third in the individual competition. They will now go forward to represent South East Scotland Wing at the Regional Competition.
Congratulations to FS Greenall, Sgt Graham, Sgt Marke and Cpl Hunking who have all recently qualified as Master Air Cadets and have achieved a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Aviation Studies. This represents the end of their academic training in the Air Cadets, they will now undertake an instructional techniques course which will allow them to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of Air Cadets.
Congratulations to Sgt Jamie Graham on achieving his Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award this month. This is an amazing achievement and one recognised by employers and educational establishments worldwide.
Jamie has spent over 12 months completing the various sections of the award. This has included a period of community volunteering, learning new skills in aviation, undertaking a program of physical training, attending a week long residential project and planning a walking expedition of four days and three nights in the Scottish Highlands.
He now has the opportunity to attend a presentation ceremony at Holyrood Palace and receive his certificate from a member of the Royal Family.
Well done from all at 859!
Massive congratulations to FS Joe Greenall, Sgt Robbie Marke, Cpl Callum Buchan and Cpl Ethan Hunking who successfully completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award Assessed Expedition this week.
Between 3-7 August the group of six, which also included staff members Sgt (ATC) Shaun Mitchell from 1145 Sqn and CI Callum Rae from 1232 Sqn, completed an epic trek in some extremely poor weather conditions. The group travelled between Aviemore and Blair Athol on foot, sleeping under canvas each night and being entirely self sufficient during the expedition.
Well done on your amazing achievement!
We took advantage of the warm August evenings and went kayaking along the Union Canal with the Regional Adventure Training Officer. Eight cadets completed their Paddlesport Start Award. Not many fell in...
Congratulations to Cdt Abigail Flanagan and Cdt Kieran Gordon who both recently completed their probationary training and were formally enrolled in the Air Training Corps by the Squadron Chaplain this evening.
Welcome to 859!
